Why Is Hydrotherapy Important?

Hydrotherapy is an aspect of physiotherapy and involves the use of water to cure diseases. Different types of conditions like joint pain, muscle pain, and arthritis are treated by exercising in water. Most people now prefer exercising in water as it is more helpful and easy.

Hydrotherapy is performed in particular types of pools called hydrotherapy pools. These are different from ordinary swimming pools because the temperature and pressure of water can be adjusted and controlled in hydrotherapy pools.  

Hydrotherapy pools use hot or cold water for treatment. Hot or cold water compresses assist in many ways. No doubt, exercising in water increases the movement of joints and muscles. The body feels light in water and the pressure on joints is very less thus easy movement of joints takes place.

Hydrotherapy or water therapy was first used by ancient Greeks, Egyptians, and Chinese. They used hot tubs, mineral baths, and other different techniques to relieve pains and aches in the body. As time passed,  it evolved and gained popularity all across the world. Now, it is commonly used by people to relieve pain. Moreover, different types of equipment are also designed especially for hydrotherapy.

Various types of equipment are now used in hydrotherapy. Underwater treadmills, whirlpools, hot tubs, exercising materials, and cold plunges are some examples. These have different characteristics that aid in rehabilitation and cure.  

Hydrotherapy is very effective and beneficial for health. It improves blood flow, strengthens muscles, relieves muscle and joint pain, reduces headaches and anxiety. Hence, it helps people in many ways.
